As of November 2022 if you are a director, or alternate director of a company that is registered as an Australian Body, or registered foreign company under the Corporations Act 2001 you must obtain a Director Identification Number (Director ID). It is a unique 15 digit identifier that demonstrates a director has verified their identity with the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS) which is kept forever (same principle as your TFN).
