The ATO’s Free Super Clearing House Is Closing. Here’s What Businesses Need to Know

If your business currently uses the ATO’s Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) to process super payments, there’s an important change to be aware of.

The SBSCH will close from 1 July 2026 as part of the transition to Payday Super.

New registrations for the service closed in October 2025, and existing users will only be able to use the platform until 30 June 2026.

This means businesses currently relying on the SBSCH will need to move to an alternative solution before the new rules begin.

Why Is the SBSCH Closing?

The SBSCH was designed around quarterly super payments.

With Payday Super requiring contributions to be paid with every pay run, businesses will need systems capable of handling more frequent payments, faster processing, and improved tracking.

The current SBSCH platform was not designed for this level of activity, which is why businesses will need to transition to newer payroll-integrated or commercial clearing house solutions.

What This Means for Your Business

If your business currently uses the SBSCH, there are two key things to think about:

  • Choosing a new solution that can support Payday Super requirements
  • Allowing enough time to set up and test the new process before July 2026

For many businesses, this won’t just be a change in provider. It may also change how super payments are managed within payroll and day-to-day processes.

The right setup should help automate payments, integrate with payroll, and provide visibility over whether contributions have been received on time.

What Are Your Options?

The good news is there are already a number of commercial clearing house and payroll-integrated solutions available.

Many major payroll providers, including Xero, MYOB, and Employment Hero, are developing or expanding built-in Payday Super functionality.

When reviewing your options, it’s worth looking for a solution that:

  • Integrates directly with your payroll system
  • Supports SuperStream-compliant payments
  • Provides payment tracking and confirmation
  • Is prepared for Payday Super requirements before July 2026

Start Preparing Early

Changing payroll or payment systems can take time, especially if testing, setup changes, or staff training are involved.

Starting early gives your business time to make the transition gradually and ensure everything is working smoothly before the deadline arrives.
